i would just do the waist band and wear a colored slip under it then you would have more options with it you wouldn't be held to one color I have a pineapple top I made and I wear different colored tank tops under it. You have done a great job

I love making clothes and just tend to go that way when I pick up my crocheting. I am working on making patterns for thread crocheted clothing as there just aren't any out there.
