Rosemary, yes it was challenging to work with black and after making the two very similar afghans, it was a long time before I used black yarn again. I much prefer to work with lighter colors, but black was the best for that particular design. It was the one used in the pattern I chose.

    Bravo...what a lovely design. It's so cheerful!

I love to use Black as a back ground on bright colors, but the older I get, the harder it gets to work with. I am going to wait until summer to put my squares together as the sun light makes it easier on my eyes. I hate waiting that long but I want the black background and none of my lights are bright enough. It is a real chore if I have to tear ananything out. Again I say lovely.

    Hi,
My Dad's girlfriend/companion had asked me to crochet a black hat for her. She didn't care what type of yarn I used. this is 4 pictures but one hat. A couple of the pictures look like a gray hat but it was a black hat. I don't know if you can see on the pictures but the hat has ridges(to get the ridges I crocheted in the top of the stitch)
The rim of the hat is crocheting the stitches the reg. way. I'm pretty sure I used a half double crochet.

Jean Marie, that's a nice job on the hats. I use black only on occasion. But when using bright colors, the black really makes them stand out. I also do most of that type of crocheting during the day when it's easier to see.

    Thanks. That's only one hat.
