The reason it looks so different is because they changed the color more often. When change the color back and forth like that you have those longer ones criss crossing in the back like that. It looked very similar to me. It may not be the tunisian. Sorry if I wasn't much help.

Raspberry Stitch: I've heard of that one too. Never tried it though. If you google it looks like it. Closer than my tunisian guess.

Looks like entrelec, not sure if spelled correctly. The stitch is easy. I have made several blankets with this stitch in the past few months. Hope this helps.

Yes, its a crochet stitch. (Raspberry stitch) Its made with a sc, dc, sc in same stitch, skip 2 stitches and repeat. The actual pattern ends up on the wrong side so you have to turn it to that side when you're finished so the pattern will show. Hope all this makes sense to you.

looks like garter stitch (knit all rows) alternating colours every 6 stitches and 6 rows.
the back shows the yarn being carried across
if you could find an old slipper pattern from phentex you would be able to make them
i found the pattern in an old woman's day magazine from 8/10/82
they are called checkerboard slippers and the article is called "125 bazaar best sellers
    & early-bird gifts to make"
i hope this helps, if you can tell me how to send it i would be happy to or i could photocopy
    it and mail it

HI, could it possibly be the linen stitch?
