I was in the usual place at Walmart ... the yarn aisle and had a skein of Red Heart's Boutique in my hand. A woman came to the yarn aisle and commented about the yarn being an excellent choice for the crocodile stitch. I was wearing one of the sweaters I made. She asked if I had made it (I said "yes") and we got into a conversation. She invited me to join a crochet group that had just started, and best of all, it's in the neighborhood. Yesterday I met with them for the first time (it was the 2nd meeting of the group) and it was so much fun. Focus was on the croc stitch and I found out I really have a hard time with it! Also, it uses a lot of yarn.
I live in a mobile home 55+ community, Sierra Dawn. If we name the group, maybe we could call ourselves the Sierra Dawn Hookers What's really funny is we're all Christian, so we could call ourselves the Christian Hookers.
I'm thinking Wow! as I tell you this. Just a chance meeting someone at Walmart and finding a crochet group ... I'm so blessedSee what Joyce Writes on Yahoo

3/29/2014: 8:40-ish pm. Dear "Think Jesus" My suggestion is to check with your Library. The "craft" group I attend meets at our city Library at no cost. :-) We meet once a week in the evening for 2 hours. And/or, you could put a note in your local newspaper!
Good shopping. :-) Sallie

For some reason, at certain Panera Bread places around my area, there are crochet groups that meet there. The lady who runs the prayer shawl group that I attend, which is held in a meeting room at the local church once a month, also runs a little group at Panera Bread weekly. However, am not sure how you go about finding out if that is in your area. Unless you check Ravelry, they may have groups around in your area.

30 Mar, 2014 from Sallie: Dear Roe: If it were me, and I wanted to know bad Enough, I would show up and ask a bunch of questions, including whether any of the people know of other groups, hopefully near where you live. :-) It's amazing how helpful people are. I find that the people in this group are very friendly and obliging. Good luck, and happy crocheting. :-) Sallie
