I have run into the same problem with some Redheart yarns. The good news is that once I washed the finished project on Delicate with Woolite they turned soft.

All I an tell you is that it is some type of Cloche hat. If I can find the pattern I will let you know :-)

I use the LionBrand pattern but make the sleeve longer as my liner. Then use crochet stuffed animal patterns for your outside look. Also, you can adapt what few puppet patterns you may find online....
