I know, if they're made with crochet thread, they're quite pesky to work, but they're a lot more doable in yarn, as appliques on sweaters or afghans. ;)

Roe, I've used yarn snowflakes as an applique on sweaters: you can use fingering/sock weight if you don't want a real bulky flake, but even worsted looks good when it's for a winter sweater...
