i think the yarn might be doubled, meaning working with 2 skeins same time?

I'm certainly not an expert, but if you use 2 strands of worsted weight together it will give it a lot more support and it will hold its shape better. The nesting basket idea is great, and adding a brim would be easy. Glad he doesn't want the duck and all the different colors LOL. Doing the star on the top and the rest in one color makes it a lot easier. You'll get a lot of great ideas from other members here, there is so much knowledge and experience on this site!
