If you used two strands of super bulky yarn, I believe it would be of ample size.

Beautiful rug. I have recently made a couple bath mats using T-shirt yarn,with am L hook. But they were nothing compared to yours, good work.

I remember my mom sitting by her black singer sewing machine and sewing strips together from old clothes -- with a very long steel crochet hook-- crocheting it together in an oval.
