I used to make these also by braiding the cloth strips and sewing the braided strips together to form the rug. I think crocheting them is easier though and uses less strips for the same sized rug. I use old towels too and make my own highly absorbent bath rugs.

Hello writer_crafter How many sheets do you use for your rugs?

    Sandra,

It really just depends on the size and shape of the rug, and how you crochet it. Usually, around 2 full size sheets will make a small round rug crocheted with hdc or dc.

What a great idea. I love the thought of re-using something rather than just throwing it away. Your rug is truely beautiful.

Wow! This one's another great idea. I've been thinking of what I could do with my old but somehow not too fluffy towels which I'm somehow hesitant to throw or give away. Yep old towels can still be useful!

Lovely work. I have been telling myself for years that I need to make one. Looks like you have done what I keep thinking of.
