1943 Crocheted Square Bag.
With warm weather coming, I wanted a new purse. So, this is what I picked.
It is from a book I have from 1943.

This is a very pretty bag and you did a great job. Did you line it? Can you post the name of the book? I have several old books with purses and bags so I might give this a try for summer.

It is Easy to make Hats Scarves and Accessories. Book # 192.
I haven't lined it. I have been thinking about how I want to do it.
I am thinking about putting some pockets on the lining. I am also thinking about an attached change purse.
The pattern calls for a square of thin cardboard for the bottom support of the bag. I am going to use a balsawood.

I just made a small basket for my daughter and decided to use a plastic disc in the bottom to help stabilize it and better keep its shape. It just seemed like a little too much trouble for a small basket to line it. But a lining in a bag/purse would certainly be a good idea. It would keep me organized!
I love the color and stitches on the bag you made. And thanks for posting the book info.Beverly

I love your bag! If you put a piece of plastic canvas in to stabilize the bottom you can still wash it, so long as you use cool water and don't machine dry.

I cut a square of thin cardboard and have it in the bottom. It can be removed for washing. I am still thinking about using balsam wood. I will make a removable cover for it. I like the way the cardboard keeps the shape of the bag even when I have a lot in it.

This is a very nice handbag. I am 74 years old and remember my mother making a handbag that resembles yours. Where can i find the pattern?
