    hi Linda
I am a recovered Breast Cancer person(Dec 2011-4 yrs, yea!) and would have loved a lap throw or blanket to curl up in,when I was undergoing treatment. Hospitals and Drs rooms are most often kept quite chilled to keep infection from spreading, amoungst other things, and it is also a lonely experience despite having others around. We are asked to "give back" to the community when lucky enough to survive and finish treatment...I made a "Prayer Shawl" for a friend when he underwent his treatment, and he was so grateful. The colors were soft, and he said it reminded him of Hawaii, his home, and now living in NYC. These are quite simple to make, and they don't have to be as large as a typical afghan. Lion Brand has many free patterns, and you can easily find little prayers to go along with it...esp. ones that are non-denominational,that anyone could relate to. The P. Shawl booklets are also sold at Michaels,Jo-annes,and other sew/craft stores as well if you want to browse or purchase.

    Regards,Heidi

I have seen a Checkers game that can be crocheted. The game "board" is black and red squares that are stitched together (I think) and the playing pieces are crocheted as well. Google it if you are interested. I know your friend may not always feel like playing a game, but when he is up to it and feeling better, he'll have it. Hope he feels better soon.

What a great idea arbrumfield, I hadn't thought of that.
I will try to keep that in mind. That may be good to take to nursing homes also. My group makes lapghans for our local nursing homes, that would be nice too.
    Thanks.

You could crochet him socks or slippers. I remember when I was going through chemo my feet were always cold even with shoes on. It is more comfy if you can take shoes off and relax because some of those sessions are long. slippers are so much more comfortable than shoe. I also agree on and afghan with a sport team motif. Good luck and I will be praying for the 13 year old boy.

i also was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 50, had a mascetomy, now at age 73 it has com back (bone cancer, now in remission) i thought it might be a good idea to make finger puppets the first one to look as much as the 13 year old boy and then maybe he might have some suggestions as to what other people or action figures he might enjoy. sort of like the therapy used for children with dolls (they seem to act out and or talk to each other) i thought it might help him if he is depressed or won't discuss his situation with others i'll hold him in my prayers and bless you for caring

    Ideas for young cancer patient

What wonderful responses to my request! So far, I've made him an "Angry Birds" hat, which he loves and wears a lot. I've also just sent him a "Monster" that I made from instructions on Craftsy. He's a great gift for a teenager - big ears for listening, no mouth (no lectures, no arguments, no corny jokes...), and he can be punched or thrown in moments of frustration. Actually, maybe all of us need a "Monster" of our own! I attached a couple of pics of "Spud" Hope you can see them.

Why not try making a large lapghan for him. I know when cancer patients have chemo, they tire very easily and nap often. This will cover him but not overwhelm him.

Good Morning Teapot,,,,,I have just made something for my niece....she also has cancer.....so I made her a set of items.....one is a cap to hide her head...she loved that....with a matching scarf......and a matching purse.....I forgot to take photos of my gift to her, so I can't show you....they all have little flowers added on as accents on each...........the main color is purple........with a rainbow color for the accents...........the purse has bamboo handles.............and this is good for a teen............she will love it!
