    #3 cotton

I found a project I would love to do but it calls for #3 cotton. I know what #10 cotton is and I have a large spool of what Lion Brand calls kitchen cotton...can someone describe #3 cotton for me?

I believe it is just a little thicker than the #10 cotton teri, I believe I've picked up some at Wal-Mart one day.

Teri, There is the size 10- then a size 5- which is thicker than the 10 - then the size 3 which is thicker than the size 5. In thread the larger the number the smaller the size. And the smaller the number the larger the thread. Number 3 is recommended for clothing and other things. I use the size 3 or 5 for some of my doilies. Adjust hook size accordingly. Can get some colors at Wal- Mart, hope this helps. Hugs!
PS I have some size 50 or 70 thread for tatting and it is teeny tiny. And to think I used to be able to use it! No more! LOL
P P S LOL If you are making an article of clothing I don't know if the kitchen cotton would be good or not. Guess it would, cause people use cotton for clothing a lot. But I think it would diff from no. 3 thread.

#3 cotton thread is the same as #10 only a bit heavier, but not much. You should be able to get it at most craft stores that sell yarn. Mine is from Red Heart, but there are others out there. Look for Aunt Lydia's cotton thread also, which I think might be Lion Brand, although to me it is much softer and a bit harder to handle than Red Heart. But, to each their own, . This thread can really get small, the smaller the numbers though, the larger the thread. Good luck!

I find that Aunt Lydia's No. 3 is a bit larger than other brands of No 3. I like to crochet doilies, place mats, tablecloths, etc. with it. Do not mix it with other brands of No. 3 as the sizing will be off. I also used it to crochet myself a vest and it came out very nice.
