I have an idea. Since you mentioned the color changes being maybe on or two stictches, what about transfering the pix to a piece of fabric then crochet a border and then attach the squares together. I've seen a couple of quilts that the crochet was done around squares of fabric and then the squares were joined. Very pretty.

Donna Hammell of donnascrochetshoppe.com has pre charted graphs for free & if u send her a picture she'll chart it for a small fee. I've never done one but my niece wants a Gello Kitty bedspread that I plan to make from Donna's chart. I hope this helps & good luck! I still can't get pictures of things I've crocheted from this iPhone to this site but when I figure it out I'll post my other things as well as my niece's bedspread
