washing instructions for hats?
I'm finishing up 2 hats for 2 girls 5 Little Monsters: Crocheted Unicorn Hat with Flowers 5 Little Monsters: About Me
My neighbor wanted to know about washing instructions if it had to be washed by hand. I didn't think so but I looked at one of the yarn labels which said it could be washed in the wash machine but with the decorative stuff on it I'm guessing it probably should be washed by hand. What do you think?
The 2 hats for the 2 boys is with a 4 ply yarn (regular yarn thickness for 4 ply) The hats for the boys have a face on them and a small hat on top of the hat (like SpongeBob would wear) and I would go ahead and say the hats for the boys could go in the wash machine. Do you agree?

Well, if those were mine, I'd wash them all by hand, but that is my opinion and nothing more.

It sounds like with the decorations on them I would wash by hand. They must be cute. Sue H

sorry the 1st pic is sideways. I used the 2 yarns in the 1st pic for the hat so you can see the 2 yarns I used. The back of the blue hats for the boys I thought maybe you could see the seem line (where I ss the beginning and end of the rnd) It's the invisible stitch. With the invisible stitch it's looser or open more. The other way(the reg. way to do a ss) makes it tighter. The tighter way for a ss looks good on the top of the hat. I tried to upload the back of the pink hats to show you but it wouldn't upload and the pictures I took didn't all upload. I posted what I could and I tried to have the pictures right side up. I've tried to rotate a picture on CT but I couldn't figure out how to do it.

I guess with a sideways view you can see more of the top of the hat.

The hats are really cute. I think if the parts are attached very well you could wash them. I think I would hand wash but with kids clothes it might need machine wash. Like I say if the parts are really attached well it should be ok. I also think that the washer/dryer may shrink things a little more than hand wash. Sue H

Thanks. I think if it went in the dryer the yarn would get fuzzy.

Hi Jean Marie,
Your hats are so cute! You did a nice job on them. I would hand wash them also. If they get too soiled, they could be soaked in an Oxyclean solution for a while and then hand washed. The kids who get them will love them!
