Have you ever crocheted with 4 - ply yarn and...
as you were crocheting all of a sudden the yarn gets thicker for a little ways and then goes back to the regular 4 - ply yarn - back to the way it was originally? What do you think makes some yarn like that?

Yes,Jean Marie, I have had that same experience. I think it happens when the yarn is being “spun”. Maybe a defect prevents it from thinning out to 4 ply. I just work with it and continue on. imalefty

I've had yarn get thinner in some places and thicker in others. I agree that this happens during the spinning process. I think it's also poor quality control.
