When it says ch 1 sp then crochet in the ch 1 sp. At the end of the row ( I crocheted a bit to try to help but not to the end of row) you probably will have a sp not a ch 1 sp. Crochet into the sp. You probably have a ch 1 sp all across the row but at the end of the row it's probably just a sp not a ch 1 sp.

Jean, are the spaces between the 2dc, ch1, 2dc and the dc, ch2, dc all ch1 spaces?

Answering your first question, yes--it was dc, ch 1, dc. I mean the spaces created where I highlighted them in green arrows? Where are the ch 1 spaces?

You mean the blue arrows? No, they are Not ch 1 spaces. The ch 1 spaces are between the dc sts you have in one stitch.

All the greenish blue arrows are ch 1 spaces. You have groups of 3 red arrows. The red arrow that is in the middle of the 3 red arrows is the ch 1 sp

Finally, thanks to you, I think I can go ahead and practice a whole block. How wonderful of you to take the time to share! BTW, you and your husband look like a wonderful couple. After 50 years I am still in awe of mine.

Hi Lucie,
You wrote on one of your post that you are doing the following:
After doing 2dc, ch1, 2dc I skip three stitches.
After doing dc, ch1, dc I skip two stitches.
The pattern instructions you posted earlier show the following:
3. *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next st,
4. skip 3 sts,
5. (2 dc, ch 1 2 dc) in next st,
6. skip 2 sts;
If you are just practicing it may not be important but if you are making something this could make your item not match your instructions. The (dc,c1,dc) is sometimes called the "V" stitch and the chain 1 between the 2 dc's on the next row sometimes is used to make a shell stitch which is your (2dc,ch1,2dc). It is a pretty pattern.
Jean Marie is helping you with your spaces or ch1 that make up your spaces for your pattern.
Keep up the good work.
