    Help with mill ends yarn.

I bought a bag of mill ends today that is a really pretty raspberry color, which I thought was bulky yarn. When I got home and opened it, it was like flat loosely woven tape about half an in wide. It's still a pretty color but I don't have a clue what to do with 14 ounces of it. Any suggestions? Really appreciate any ideas you can give me.

Sounds like a pretty color! I could make a few guesses here but I might be wrong. What I'd do is do a search engine search of 'images' of 'flat yarn; and see if you can find a photo of something that looks like what you've got. then you can search yarn sites using the names of some of the yarns you think it could be. Sounds like a ribbon yarn perhaps, or something else I saw last night but can't remember the name of it. You'll find it, and then you can go onto ideas of what to do, or we'll help you once we know what it is. There are so many new yarn types out now! Good luck, hope this helps!

Thanks Susan. It would help if I knew what the mystery fiber is called. I'm going to research that right now before the football game comes on.

    Hi Debarineh,
Sometime back I crocheted a cocoon but never gave it to anybody. Now if I have a piece of yarn that's about an inch or more I put it in the cocoon I made. Maybe I'll use it someday for stuffing or for a hook it rug. They do have blank hook it rugs at the store.

Some people on here have said that they use scraps of yarn for birds so they can build a nest.

I read soon after that list of 34 ideas of what to do with scrap yarns came out that the bird specialists have asked people not to put yarn out for birds, it's somehow dangerous to them! So now people have to spread the word that it's a bad idea, so we can help on Crochet Talk by spreading that word to help them... FYI.

It's not really scrap it's 4 skeins of yarn I just thought it was bulky yarn but it turned out to be ribbon yarn. I'm looking for pattern ideas for that. I can't recall seeing any. I don't think it's soft enough for a lot of things.

Looks like you got a pretty good yarn at hopefully a good price! I'm glad you were able to find out what kind of yarn you had!
