Help please!!!

I'm making a sweater for my granddaughter, which was coming out beautifully, but then I came to the armhole shaping row and I cannot for the life of me figure this out. I know how to decrease, but I can't figure out how to do it and stay in the pattern, and I also don't understand the Note. Can anyone help please? Here's a link to the pattern. My trouble starts with the armhole shaping. I would appreciate it so much, I really love this sweater and hoped to be able to make a few. Thanks.

Hi nancyjhudson, what I understand is that you will do the decreases by replacing the stich you are doing (3st group) for ch-1,dc, sc, always begining and ending row with sc.

I thought I had it, but then I couldn't get the next row to be the right number of stitches. UGH!!! I gave up ... for now. I'm visiting my son in Arizona in a few weeks and I wanted to have something for my granddaughter, so I picked another pattern that I'm having no problem with. Thanks for the help though, I'll definitely try again another time.
