I made an afghan for my husband out of yarn scraps years ago. It came out really nice. The flu hit our house a short time later, and both my husband and three of our kids fought over that afghan. It ended up being called the sick blanket lol. I am now making a scarf out of yarn scraps for my daughter. She plans to call it her scarf of many colors.

You can also make striped hats out of scraps.

Perfect! I love to see their faces when they see something made for them. Also little tykes are the best visitors for them!

Hi....When I have some extra parts of balls of yarn, I have crocheted a few bed afghans using the granny stitch. I usually had enough to co-ordinate the mix of colors. For example: I would crochet a complete row of yellow, then follow it with either the gold or brown or tan. whatever.....It really looks sharp. I used somber colors that reminded me of autumn. I've been saving my yarn to make 'crazy' socks....I saw miss matched socks in a catalog and I was like, see I'm not crazy by myself.....

I finished my son's afghan out of shades of blue and yellow. Now I am using all the shades of purple I have from light lilac to deep purple to make one for myself. I'm just doing a sc stitch across 200 stitches and keep going until it long enough to cover us from head to foot. They are nice and warm and now no one fights over the blankets because we each have our own.

I have always saved the small scraps. When I was a child my mother would put her yarn scraps in the yard for the birds. We lived near a large forest. A few weeks later we would take a walk a look for yarn in nests. We wouldn't always find one but when we did it was so exiting.
Last year I began making afghans with my larger scraps. I left the knotted ends sticking out just for fun. When I came to the end of a scrap I would just start another. I have made three of them. They are all done in hdc so they are warm.
