thread size

In Wal Mart, I saw a thread size 5. It looks the same as # 10, just not as tight a twist. Have any of you used this thread? If so, what size hook is used, and how does it compare with #10? Also, an Italian designer used #8 thread and 2.50 hook. I haven't seen any of this size, but I don't go anywhere except to Wal Mart most of the time, so I might not be up to date on things. I looked up size 5 thread and it said either use a size C(2.5) or size 4(1.75). Size 5 is slightly larger than a size 10 thread.

Thanks for the response. I may try the #5. There are more colors than Wal Mart has for # 10
