Will yarn get old and not useable?
I have some Yarn that my sis had stored and is about 15 years old. My daughter took some it and said she can't work with it because it is old. Margaret

I had some baby yarn older than that and I could still use it. Was it still in good shape and would it break if you pulled on both ends easily?

It looked alright to me but she pitched it in the trash. I have some Dazzleaire that is about the same age and it still works up good in baby blankets. The only problem it is all white but some of it is starting to turn yellow.

My son's christening outfit was turning yellow and handwashed it in oxyclean and it took the yellow right out--maybe it would work for yarn too. good luck

I have used some really old yarn without any problems. It may depend on how it is stored

I've never heard of yarn having an expiration date. I'm not sure why your daughter couldn't work with it. Maybe she just didn't like the texture regardless of the age.

I have some yarn that is well over 20 years old (if not more) and I haven't had a problem with it either.

tHANKS ,GALS, I was very upset that she thought she couldn't use it. But now after "talking with you' I think her problem was she didn't like it and uses that excuse. Hugs to all of you. Margaret

I have yarn that is every bit that old and it seems fine. It has been stored in totes in my basement. My problems is it has a musty smell. Any suggestions as to how to get rid of that smell?. I thought about just airing in this cold winter air and thinking it will leave it.
