I just read this post on CrochetHappy.com which is a guest post by Susan of FeltedButton.com. It is a great little introduction on how to choose colors for your work. Basically, let your feelings decide and throw away the rules.

Thank you for posting this!! I have nooooo idea what goes with what, till I see it myself in full fledge. I gave up with "I think this will be okay!" Now I myself use Mother Nature for helping me choose the colors. Who can argue with the Good Lord and the powers that you hold true to your heart? And I personally believe that what may look "ugh" to me, may look like a vision of beauty to someone else. So, I just go by my gut feelings, and let it be as it is. I have found that works best, I may say ICK on something, give it a try and all will work out. Beauty is on the beholder is what I say.

I pretty much go with my gut as well.
