What wonderful information this is! I was basically self taught 45 years ago and had to stumble through it alone using books.

I find when I have problems with a pattern if I write the going DOWN the page one step at a time, I can take a sticky note and place it under each step as I go, it helps me both keep my place and understand the pattern better. You can write it out the long way too until you get use to the abbreviations. Hope that will help you.

Hi Judi , I have done the same thing and written the pattern out step by step. It really helps if you have a difficult pattern. It also helps to check out different videos, sometimes you cnfollow a pattern along with the video, makes it much simpler!

What a great idea, Judy Gums. The older I get, the harder time I have keeping track of where I am in a pattern. I'll definitely use this tip!

Thanks Sweetie, It will help someone. It doesn't help to refresh my memory on some stitches.

Hi Susan, Its really interesting how you can go to a number of sites and find different abbreviations. I guess its because we are in touch with people from a over the world. For example, I came across a slight difference in the pattern I following now, "dtr". So the question becomes look it up, or just keep going LOL again!
