Hello I'm needing help in finding what a flange is in crochet. I've looked and cannot find it.

One of the members has made a guess that flanges are groups when it comes to crochet.

Hello, How is your crochet instruction used? You didn't say what you were making in crochet but flange is a term for an extension like an add on to something. To increase the width of your seam or to add a border to your blanket.
This term is used in sewing I have not seen this term used in crochet.

Hi Barbara, I responded to a post with a question on what is a flange. I responded correctly with it is an add on or an increase. I just saw your post here today and clicked on the link below. It showed a picture of a pillow which would be an example of what I meant by add on or increase. Make the square for the pillow then you make the sides. If you try to google what is a flange you get bride in French and a Bride is a Double crochet so the person that wrote what is a flange they want her to do a double crochet or increase or add on to what ever she is making.

I too have never heard of the word flange used in crochet or even sewing! I had to go here to realize that it was not just used in mechanics, plumbing, construction, etc:
(flănj)
n.
1. A protruding rim, edge, rib, or collar, as on a wheel or a pipe shaft, used to strengthen an object, hold it in place, or attach it to another object.
2. A wide edge on a pillow, placemat, or other fabric object, especially a piece of fabric or ribbon extending from the outer seam.
What's wrong with just saying "edging" or "trim" - why don't crochet instrs used these better-known words?
