Adjusting thread crochet patterns
I'm new here. Have beautiful baby thread crochet patterns for size 10 thread, however, I love the softer, lacy look of size 20 or 30. Does anyone know how to adjust the patterns substituting the smaller thread sizes? Would really appreciate your help. Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the crochet forums! Nice to have you here with us!
I personally have not used crochet thread very much at all. But, I do know of others here in the forums who have.
So, be patient in someone responding to maybe provide you with some suggestions.

I'm presuming the pattern has given you a gauge swatch to go by. The easiest way to use a thinner thread but keep the same size garment would be to use a larger size hook. This will give you a looser, more open and lacy look, which you may or may not want, but creating a gauge swatch would be essential.

Hello Arlene, I have made many baby dresses with yarn and with thread. I only use #3 or # 5 thread as most of the baby dresses I make are lacy and that size thread shows off the design better. I only used a size 20 to do tatting and size 10 for doilies. I used a bigger hook but used the same pattern instructions making my lace baby dresses using thread.
I uploaded these pictures so you could see what I mean about the designs. The dark blue dress was made with #2 yarn called fingerling the design is all lace and I should have used #3 thread as the yarn was too soft. The purple and white dress was made with #3 thread it is soft but holds its shape.
I hope this helps.

You are so right Nova, I use larger hooks but use the same instructions. I am not good with gauge swatches I can never get the same stitch count. I know what the chest measurements and length size I want so I crochet and measure. Not the most perfect way to crochet but works for me.

Welcome to the Forum. I crochet the filet items. I love #30 thread. Really I only take the pattern and crochet. Nothing special

Thank you dear. Unfortunately, I do not have time to crochet now. My grandson 1yr 2 months is here.
