    planter fasciitis anyone?

Wow. On the 4th of July, my heel hurt so much, I couldn't walk. We went to see the fireworks at the point in Pittsburgh where the three rivers come together, and by the end of the night, I could hardly walk back to my car. I ended up going to The Good Feet Store the next day, and the lady told me they get 4-5 people each day with this problem. She fitted me with some very expensive supports ($299) plus new tennis shoes. What a difference. The supports are guaranteed for life, so after this one investment, I need only to replace my shoes once a year, and I can take these supports out and put them in other shoes for dress etc. If you have heel pain, let someone check it out for you. You just may have this condition that occurs in hundreds of people each year.

I have Fibromyalgia and the first major sign was the bottoms of my feet hurt like a big dawg! Went to my PCP and all he said was "They are inflamed." I asked what should be done about it, he said take Tylenlol. Fired him for being stupid. The inflamation continiued on and about a year later I got flu like symptoms which lasted 3 months before the next PCP could send me to a Pain Management Specialist. Since then I have to wear running shoes. So I have Panic Disorder, Fibromyalgia, and just past my 3rd year marker for cancer. God is Good! He has gotten me through it all!

Caroltheteach: When I first started teaching Home Ec I was on my feet all the time plus I was wearing heels and had horrific pain. I was in a small town and had not established with a doc. I went to Orthopedic doc and he gave me a shot in the heel that helped a lot but it took several months to quiet down. For a while I wore a slipper only. I have really not worn regular shoes for many years, mostly slip on without backs, clogs, and sandals. At least my heels and bunions don't hurt!!! Shirley

Lili, they told me not to wear anything but good support or tennis shoes. I'm seeing a doctor tomorrow. I'm getting too many different stories of what I should do.

I went with my husband to a foot specialist Thursday. He has been suffering with this on and off for about 3-4 years now but he is a typical man. He would go to the doctor get some anti-inflammatories etc. and feel better and then let it go. This time his PCP would not have it and sent him to a specialist. They gave him a shot in his heel and sprayed something, I had never seen, kind of a glue like stuff on his foot and then wrapped it and he had to keep it wrapped for 36 hours. He gave him a boot that he has to sleep in, he has to have orthotics made to fit him to go in his shoes and have physical therapy. He has been in awful pain with it. When he gets out of bed in the morning he can barely walk. Takes a long time to get going. As long as he stays up on it he does better than when he sits and stays off of it for any time. Then it is torture again to walk on it. He said he can already tell a difference just since Thursday. I sure hope so, I don't want him sick or anything to happen to him but then like some of you I am partly selfish because I don't know what we would do if he got down. He is the one who takes care of both of us. I have multiple health problems but I have fibromyalgia, have had 2 back surgeries and I have heel spurs. Just to name a few. If you have never had pain in your feet like that you would never believe your foot could cause you such terrible pain. Anne M.

dear luapmerriam I had orthotics put in my shoes too at the Good Feet store. It has helped, but I'm still really sore when I walk on it. I noticed too, it's worse in the morning when I get up, but that's typical of planter fasciitis. I'm seeing a doctor this week because we are leaving for Busch Gardens and Water Country in VA next weekend, and there's a lot of walking. Hope your hubby gets well soon. Carol

The problem with real shoes is that there is pressure from the front to the back of your foot. By not wearing shoes with backs there is no pressure for me. The pain is horrendous and I am so glad you all are going to the doc to get the best advice. It did take a long time for the pain and discomfort to go away. Take care and good luck! Shirley

I hardly ever hear anyone else with this. I used to suffer all the time with this just as you did. I finally got diagnosed with planter fasciitis. I was told I could get the orthotic or get special shoes to wear. I went to a special store and got special shoes that felt wonderful on my feet. But I also had to understand what caused the pain. The doctor explained that the muscle across the bottom of my foot would contract while sitting. The pain would happen when you got up to walk on the foot and you stretched the muscle back out again. So, in knowing that, I am now able to wear regular shoes as long as they have great arch support to keep that muscle stretched. That happened over 5 years ago and I am still pain free without an orthotic.
