It's nice to see so many new crafters here and from all over the place, too. Welcome to all of you. So far only my daughter has learned how to crochet. The boys aren't too interested. I have a 2 year-old granddaughter and I'm hoping she will carry the torch as well.

Hi Linda--I am here in Iowa where it gets really cold about this time of year--but so far we are having good weather and NO snow (which is alright by me) especially if I have to drive in it. I just love this site.. Well hope you have a Happy New Year. JoAnn

i am soo glad we do not have tv,otherwise we'd be hypnotized into stillness and lose out on the time on line with other places to go without putting on sweaters, gloves and boots during snowfall of various degree. i like it when it snows, the days afterward is boring. Here in south part of New Mexico we dont get much snow fall so people here doNOT know how to drive in it and makes if dangerous to get out.Funny thing about it, our restuarant was closeddown on Christmas Eve Day due to hazardous road and closed down highways,so my crew was down, nobody wants to come in when theres a threat of an auto accident. The boss lady didnt like that but since she was on a cruise. . .so during that downtime i crocheted~ Ha! Thanks JoAnn.

    Hi,
I'm from New England and live in Mass. I am 56 years old. I do not have any children of my own but fortunately I come from a family of 8 so there are more than enough nieces and nephews to go around and I get to play the "Good Aunt"
I had an aunt how taught me some basic knitting when I was about 8 or 9 years old and then in about my 30's, I picked it up again and enjoyed it (although it was mostly all straight knit scarves!) Recently, I have taught myself crochet which is much quicker and I find less complicated and I joined this group hoping to find some helpers and I certainly have.
I find it very interesting reading the various parts of the country or countries people are from. I especially enjoy traveling to the Western part of the U.S. I have been to Montana, Colorado, Utah, Arizona and Alaska. I love the outdoors and love the mountains. My next trip I am trying to decide between Wyoming, Nebraska, or Oregon!
Maybe some of you can give me tips on that as well!

Hi Janie.i'm linda from Hobbs, New Mexico. Not as grand as Albuquerque or Santa Fe, and it is flat! But the state has some really awesome mountains! Ruidoso is set in the mountains and theres a very large lake named Benito which people fish and boat. You can even see brown eagles fly fishing, elk stand by the highway and there's the Carlsbad Caverns, the Living Desert Park and Santa Ana mountain range going towards Mexico which are about the most beautiful muontains in the early morning sunrise,it will bring tears to your eyes to be in such presence of God! then there's the home of Smokey the Bear,Lincoln State Park which is also the home of Bill the Kid also know as Bushy Bill, there's White Oaks and the Mal Pais, which is black from lava flow that runs miles. The Apache used these badlands to lose the Army. i really love the state, its natural beauty and i was not born here.

Hi Linda, I am Judi from North Carolina. I grew up in Illinois and am use to driving in the snow, but around here most people aren't, so we close down here too when the first flurry falls. Everyone runs to the grocery stores and then hunkers down. It tickles me sometimes, but our roads aren't cleared off very well so you don't have much choice other then stay inside.

Nice to have you in our group. I am enjoying getting to know everyone and hear about what they are all working on.
    Happy crocheting.

Hi Judi and good morning! During this little snow flurry there was 15 rollovers on the Lovington Highway(connects a sister town about35 miles away) there were a couple of fatalities. i was actually praying that this would have been the holiday season that there would not be accidents. But you know even up in Albuquerque they dont plough or ash the roads and i dont hear chains like i used to(those were to days).

Thanks for the welcome and it is really nice to take a break and be creative and be with a bunch of like minds and spirit! its really cool that we can click while on line a be in someones room somewhere in Africa, Indonisia,Hawaii. . . . . .connecting, before as a child i had pen pals in Africa and India,so what are we calling online friends? FBF,Tweets and Tweeters,My Space Faces. ..LOL everybody's creations brings a smile with every click!who needs tv? i'm lovin' it, Thanks to everyone. . .

    Hi again Linda,

I am retired and spend a good bit of each day crocheting. I am finally advancing to some of the pretty speciality yarns. I belong to a knit/crochet group and we took a field trip last night to one of our local yarn stores. What fun that was, it is a private owned shop and is very cozy there, her dogs coming in to say hello and yarn, yarn, and more yarn. They are mostly all knitters, I and one other lady are avid crocheters, but she also knits, which I haven't done much of other then just try a couple times. I find I like the rhythm of crochet better, it is soothing to me.

On our visit last night I found some lovely yarn that is the thin fibres twisted together in different colors. She has her own label on it, so I can't give much info on it, but it is very thin, sparkly and I am using two strands together to make a long scarf. It is very pretty and I figure my grand daughter will want one too so I got enough to make two of them.

I found a pattern called the Sensational Scarf off Allfreecrochet.com and it is working nicely and going together quickly.
What are you working on today?

    Judi G
