Larisa- is it yarn or thread. What ply yarn are you using? If it's thread I would use small needles- if it's yarn, maybe a 6 or 7. Maybe someone else can help you more.

Larisa I am not sure if this will help answer your question but I do know this much
2 strands fingering = one strand sportweight
2 strands sport = one strand worsted weight
2 strands worsted = one strand chunky to super bulky weight

if the recommended needle size is 2.5- 3 I think that would be according to a chart that I am looking at a finger weight yarn here is the chart for hooks and needles Standard Yarn Weight System |

according to the chart a finger weight yarn is a 2.25 -3.25 mm needle
then looking up at what 2 stands would equal that would be a sports weight yarn which according to the chart requires a 3.25 - 3.75 knitting needle

I do not know for sre i do not Knit

I like what msbehaven told you. I knit but it has been a long time. Make a swatch and check it with the pattern and then use the needles that make the swatch the size you want. You may have to 'play' with it a little to get the correct guage.

Larisa, I just checked on a skien on bulky[#5 yarn ]and it is marked with a 5.5 mm or a 6 mm number needle. In a US size5.mm is an 8 . A 6.00mm is a US. 10 When I was Knitting hats I used short circular needles.T hat way I wasn't loosing one all the time. Do you get US sizes in your needles and yarn? Margaret

Thank you Margaret! I do not know. I have Turkish yarn and they have numbers and I am sure these are metric. Here we all use metric. I go to the flea market this saturday and look for needles. I have several patterns it hard to chose LOL
