    Question crochet abbreviation

I have a pattern that says n.b. and then gives references to how many chains to begin each row. This is written right in the middle of a row and makes no sense to me. If you can help, that would be awesome.
    Thanks

The pattern in question is a small doily pattern. In row 12 of the pattern it says:........"3 dc in next 3-ch sp(n.b.between the 2 dcl)3ch*" It has at the bottom of the pattern:
    N.B.
Always substitute(also if not explicitly said) first st in a row as follows:
    first sc with 1 ch
first hdc with 2ch, etc. This reference makes no sense to me because row 13 begins with* dcsh in next dcsh,3ch,etc.

Could those be the initials of the author of the pattern? Is there any way we could see the entire pattern?

OK I could be wrong but what I found out is: NB: This creates an adult sized, female beanie. and N.B. yrh is the first movement in crochet and forms an important part of every stitch. In further investigating the net, about.com doesn't have NB as part of abbreviations; but wikipedia says it as NOTA BENE basically meaning NOTE WELL....so could it mean....'note well between 2 double crochet'; I will write some who has NB in their pattern if they have an email address to further see what they think.....hope this helps.
