Pretty..but what the heck is it? Is it some kind of crochet hook? and if so what is the yarn fastened to it for?

guess I should have enlarged the picture before I asked....they really are pretty. You know I have some unpainted wood thingees in my craft things! They look a lot like those...I bet all I would have to do is carve the hook on the end and stain and varnish it and I would have my own furl hook! I just used those carving tools a little while ago trying to make a shuttle to go with my hexagon loom. It has gotten lost during it's idle years. I can't find one anywhere like Hobby Lobby. Didn't have time to check out Joanne Fabrics. I know the pictures of Larisa's shows using a large needle to tie the yarn crosspieces but my loom had a plastic shuttle and all I remember is it is plastic and lavender in color. Probably it is at the bottom of a tote somewhere.
