smells
when working on the Caron Dazzleaire or Simply Soft projects I get a very faint scent of coconut. very pleasant. However I'm working with some Red Heart Super Saver and I made one hat with it already and it was fine, but this hat is filling my living room with the stench of oil [like the stuff that comes out of your car's engine when you change the oil]. very whiff, not happy. I will wash all the latest hats along with some blouses that won't cause pilling or leave blots of fibers on them with a vinegar rinse. I hope this will take care of the problem. The real bad thing is I'm allergic [violently] to any gasoline product if it gets in me somehow, not just from a mere touch. I can deal with touching plastic but not a cut with any petroleum jelly in
it, or using shaving cream if I get the slightest nick. I wonder how inhaling it will be.
Anyone else notice smells associated with different yarns?Bailey

Not to be crass but dog pee and I assure you that my dogs didn't get to it. I put a dryer sheet in a plastic bag and I hope when I open it the smell will be gone.

well this has a definite petroleum smell, not gasoline, just oil.

I don't know if this will work for your odor or not, but it's worth a try. It worked for me when we had a kerosene spill in the back of our van, and when I had some really musty yarn. Put a few inches of clay kitty litter (that really cheap kind) into the bottom of a plastic garbage bag. Place your skein(s) of yarn into the bag with the litter. You can lay the yarn on a paper towel in the bag to protect it, but it will work faster without. Close up the bag tightly. After a few hours turn the yarn over so another side faces the litter. Do this a couple of times. Let it sit overnight. Remove the yarn from the litter and see if the odor is still there. If it is not gone, replace the litter, and the towel and repeat. If the smell was so strong that the plastic bag has taken on the smell as well, replace that also. It might take a few days, but it does the trick. (By the way, it will also work if the litter is applied directly onto an oily spill on fabric or carpet. It will remove the odor. Just be patient.) If your yarn has been rolled into a ball, I would suggest unrolling it part way so that the yarn layers aren't so thick. Good luck.

ok thanks. if it didn't get cleaned out in the wash I'll try it. no oil was in it just the smell, and as I said the first hat out of the same yarn- never had the smell.

Great, one more thing I'll need someone to smell for me. lol Seriously, I really can't smell things. So I don't think about some things having a smell, good or bad.
