Baby blanket question
I'm going to make my first baby blanket, I've bought the yarn only to bring it home and find out that it is chunky/bulky weight. Is this too heavy? It is in primary colors- I have no idea it the baby will be a boy or a girl.
Thanks.

Yeah, maybe too heavy. I use the Bernat Baby Coordinates ( with the "crystal thread") for bringing home baby blankets and worsted weight for crib size. See what others say.

Maybe you could find a pattern that uses the chunky yarn! A baby blanket made from this yarn would be so cozy! But it depends on where it will be used! In areas that get really cold it would be ideal, not so much in a warmed climate!! Be sure to let us know what you decide to do!!

I've made them from chunky yarn and they are very cuddly. I actually prefer them to blankets made from lighter-weight yarns. I found several baby blanket patterns online using chunky yarn. Here's one of them: Aesthetic Nest: HOH in Crochet: Easy Baby Afghan (Tutorial)

I don't think it would be too heavy if that's all you have....a parent can use it in the car or over the baby seat if they feel it's too much for baby.

Thanks to one and all, I did some caculations-if I'm correct this baby will be born in April/May. I live in Tennesse, USA. It will be too warm at that time for a blanket of this weight. ArmyBrat, I love the pattern. I'm also keeping the yarn, I have a friend who is an elementry school teacher. After the Christmas rush I'll make something for her.

Nothingnowhere had a great idea of putting it under the baby. I know I used blankets to put on the bobbon of the crib, and the play pen for him to lay on. Especially if they are soft and squishy.
