    Question

I am just finishing my afghan and at the end of each row I made my turning chain then turned the afghan. I am planning on making a different pattern for my godchild for her graduation. In this pattern I Turn then make my starting chain. Why do you turn on some patterns before and some after the chain? I did notice (of course) my new pattern I will be piecing the "blocks" together. Is this the reason? Or is it just because that is what the creator of the pattern does and it doesn't in reality make a difference?

It depends on when the pattern was written. Newer pattterns say to chain and then turn. Older patterns advise turning then chain. It makes ABSOLUTELY no difference to the crocheted piece. Do what feels most comfortable to you.

It depends on which YOU like better...try both ways and see which one suits your crochet style....happy crocheting

Oh thank you thank you everyone!! That is exactly what I wanted to hear! I feel less awkward chaining first! Didn't think it make a difference but wanted to make sure it didn't have a connection to piecing an afghan together....yippppeeeee!!!

I always chain, then turn, regardless of what the pattern says.
