    chart book

Does anyone know if you can purchase a book with crochet chart patterns that are color coded. By the time I get to the fourth or fifth row of a round motif, I am lost.
It looks like most of the beautiful cardigan and tops patterns are all in charts, so I am going to have to learn how to read them.

Don't know about that! It probably exists and somebody will know where!! I find working from a chart really hard!! But sometimes the only way to follow foreign patterns is by the chart!!

Most of the chart books I have seen are in black and white. I will do some more searching, though. I don't know if I will come up with anything. If I do, I will post it here in the forums.

the more recent ones are in colour....can you make your own? Or would you like to make a black and white one in colour?

I would love to know this too. I have shied away from all charts as they are so confusing to me. I can't seem to separate each row. Maybe I need a "Crochet Charts for Dummies" book.

The only place I've seen colored charts is in magazines. I thought the Harmony Guide to Crochet Stitches would have colored charts, but they're in black & white.

Idea: Use a highlighter and color the chart yourself before starting the project.

Kristen Omdahl and Robyn Chachula do their charts in different colors. (or alternating colors). These are a few I have.
Kristen Omdahl -"Seamleses crochet" (I think her other books do also, she's big on charts.
Robyn Chachula "Blueprint Crochet", "Unexpected Afghans". Again, I'll bet some of her others do also.
    Dora Ohrenstein "Custom Crochet Sweaters".
    All excellent books.

A suggestion. Put your pattern in a plastic cover (those folder type things). Then you can use dry ease markers to highlight the lines without ruining the pattern. And it erases easily. Hope this helps.

Thank you. I will try some of your suggestions. In the meantime, I have purchased The Complete Guide to Crochet by Margaret Hubert. It has really good charts done in black and blue as well as written instructions. I am getting along pretty good by using them both at the same time. I think I am going to like the charts better than text because it is so much easier to see what the stitches are suppose to look like and where they go. Starting out with some easy ones for now, then will try some harder ones. I bought this book at Hobby Lobby for $24.95, without a coupon this time, darn it. I have seen this book on AbeBooks Official Site - New & Used Books, New & Used Textbooks, Rare & Out of Print Books a very good source for used books.
    Thanks again.
