Yarn Kitty

In the 1980's I had a pattern for making yarn kitties.
you wrapped yarn around a piece of cardboard the cut the yarn
then put them on a long string until the string was full. then
you somehow twisted the that into a kitten shape. eyes and toungue
were added later.
I have searched but cannot find this pattern. I want to start making
Christmas gifts. I hope someone can help me.
