    Crochet Hook Size

I just received a pattern I ordered and it calls for a size 7 hook. I looked at an on-line conversion chart and found G= 4.0 mm and H = 5.0 and the 7 = 4.5. I went to many sites but never found a size 7 hook for sale. I guess 'll go with the H. The pattern is for a poncho, so fit is not that important and my sister for whom I am making the poncho is a plus size gal. I just never saw the size 7 hook referenced in any other pattern I have come across.
I would appreciate your thoughts on this.
    thanks
    pam

    Hello,

You could create a swatch with the H hook and see how it compares to doing it in the G hook. Then, you can go from there. Let us know how you do with it! We would love to hear...

thanks, Hopefully I can make it. It looks easy, but reading the directions seem daunting. But if I get it done I'll send a picture.
    thanks again, pam

Hey, I have one hook size 7...it is pink and by susan bates..I have three size G hooks...one is blue and susan bates, one has no name just size and the other is my knooking hook; I would have to agree w/ you that using the H for a poncho, would be OK...I think it all depends on your tention. If you tend to be too tight of a crocheter then most definately go for the size up...if you aren't, going down one size shouldn't change too much either. If it were me, it would depend also on the type of stitch the patern calls for...if a lot of shelly, lacey etc, I would consider going the size down....hope this helps.

An H hook is 5.00 mm. ...... I is 5.50 mm .....J is 6.00 mm .....K is 6.50 mm .....L is 7.00 mm If the pattern calls for 7.00 mm hook, that is a very large hook. Can you copy to us what the pattern requirements say?
