Patterns from 1883 - FREE - Here's the link!
I was doing online research at the Library of Congress & came across a set of 5 small pattern books that are copyright-free so you may use them to your heart's content. There is one link (and one file) for all 5 pattern books: 1) a basic how-to primer; 2) fringe patterns; 3) motifs (check out the last one!); 4) edgings and insertions, including some that incorporate rick-rack and lace; 5) Maltese patterns, otherwise known as hairpin lace. Some are pretty amazing! I hope the link works ok - this is the first time I've posted something like this. Let me know if you have problems ... All the pattern instructions appear to be easy to figure out and there's pictures and photos too. Pretty neat just to look at, if not to try out. Hope you enjoy!
Crochet series. No. 1-5

Thank you for sharing, think the first picot illustration on page 15 would be good for attaching multiple strand fringe or tassels without making open spaces in the edge of a scarf or afghan...going to try it next time and see.

Thanks for the great link! Aren't those patterns gorgeous? There was such an intricacy of so many of the old patterns that we don't see today. I wonder how on earth those folks made time to do these!
