    Question Pattern Reading Help

hey all! brand new here. however, I figured a forum would be the best place to get an answer here. I'm working this:
    http://www.redheart.com/files/patter...et-Pattern.pdf

I know how to read most of it (abbreviations and such, no prob) but it's how it uses parentheses and brackets that confuses me. It has explanations, but it's still not clear to me. Example:

"Ch 1, 6 sc in first ch-5 space,
    (ch 1, 5 sc) in next 8 ch-5 spaces"

the pattern explains parentheses thus: () = work directions
    in parentheses into same st

Therefore, am I supposed to work that twice? or does it even really matter? Very confused.

(ch 1, 5 sc) in each of the next 8 ch -5 spaces. Do what is in the parentheses for each of the next 8 ch - 5 spaces. You should have 8 spaces from the previous round. Each space will be 5 chains.

That's what I assumed. The way the pattern explains the parenthesis made it seem like I was supposed to work it twice. Thanks!
