Need help deciphering crochet pattern!
Hello all!!
I am a novice crocheter and I have taken on a new pattern. However there is one step that has me comfused. It reads as follows:
*1 dc inc (1st dc = ch2), 4 dc* 12 times, NJ in the 1st dc of the rnd after ch2. (= 72 sts)
So I do 1 double crochet increase. And than 4 double crochet. And than another 1 double crochet increase??
Any input would be awesome!!

Hi Juniper,
If you ch 2 which would be your first dc and then dc in the first st you would have a dc increase and then 3 dc which would be 4 dc total. Then 2 dc's in one st and then 4 dc's and repeat. With the 4 dc's 12 times and the ch 2 and 1 dc at the beginning of rnd taht = 50 sts. Is there a ch 2 at the end of the rnd? I didn't know what NJ is so I looked it up and it stands for Needle Join. Maybe you knew that. I don't see how they get 72 sts. Is the rnd before this one 22 sts?
If you do a increase + 4 dc's 12 times that's 6 dc's 12 times= 12x6=72 I guess it's 72 sts after all.
