    Can someone help or show me why this looks like.

    You posted the following instructions looking for help. First it would help if you had a pattern reference attached or a little more of the pattern as what you are making. (blanket, sweater or other)

    *(Sc into each of next 10 chs), 3 sc into next check (point); rep bet () once, Dec. Rep from* across

    * means repeat what is between the parenthesis (Sc into each of next 10 chains), then you would make 3 sc into the next check (point) with out a pattern or a better understanding of your question I would think you are making a point of a star. Not sure if that is correct or not so I went on the Internet and found this answer for you.

    It may also refer to this process later in the pattern as in "make another point". If that is the case, the process of making the point would have been in parenthesis or brackets or set apart in some manner.
