Hi!
I purchased a baby afghan crochet kit in 1973. I finally got around to crocheting it in 2008. With the help of my 87 year old neighbor (who has since passed) and the Internet, I finally finished the blanket. I still have the instructions for the blanket and want to do another one using the same pattern. I think I will be needing lots of help as I don't remember a thing from the past? I will post a picture in the Pictures forum.

I have been watching a video online and have gone through half of bundle of yarn. I am having no trouble with the stitches, but I am not at all sure where to insert the slip stitch and get lost on my counts as a result. I am going to the library tomorrow; for people who like to share their stitchery, crochet and knit.

Hi Lucie,
Some patterns say to sl st in the 1st sc. Other patterns say to sl st in the top of the chain. The top of the chain is right before the 1st st of the round.

Yes, it does say to sl st in the 1st stitch to join, and I have no trouble seeing it in the video. But I am never sure if I am putting it in the in the 1st stitch or the chain. For the 6th and 7th row I am supposed to sc all the way around (39 stitches). I usually wind up short a stitch or if 39 stitches, I can't tell if I am landed in the right place to chain one and sl st in the 1st stitch (because I am not sure which is my 1st st). Or, if I counted wrong!

Try putting a marker in your first stitch. Then you will know where you are.

Lucie,
It might help if you can count backwards from your last stitch. The chain is the loop. The sc st is a loop w/2 lines of yarn underneath the loop. The 1st st of the round that you sl st into is also the 1st stitch of the next round.
