What I am working on
I am finishing an afghan for my daughter-in-law for her 50th birthday. I started this tradition with my oldest daughter. I found a wonderful pattern for a sunflower afghan (her favorite flower) and decided to make her this beautiful afghan for her 50th birthday). She loved it. Since then I have had another daughter and daughter-in-law reach their 50th birthdays and crocheted them each a special afghan. The one I am finishing will be given next February.
The reason I started it so early was because I will have a new one to crochet for my granddaughter when she goes off to college in 2013. When she chooses her school, I will make her one in the school colors to take off with her and snuggle in the winters. This is another tradition I started and have given five so far.

The sunflower afghan was dimensional - it is crocheted in squares and petls of sunflower are raised. Also the leaves of the sunflower are crocheted separately and
sown on to the afghan. It turned out to be a really lovely afghan that I have not seen anywhere else.

I made afghans in school colors when my children went off to college! One of my daughters called it her "hug from home"! And I made afghans for two of my grandchildren when they graduated to a "big" bed! It's nice having traditions like this-isn"t it?

sunflower lap warmer (afghan)
I have described the sunflower afghan I made for my daughter.
Here is the website where you can find the afghan:
Crochet Patterns, Free Crochet Pattern
When you reach the website, type in: sunflower lap warmer (that is what they call it although I call it an afghan). It was so beautiful that I was hoping my daughter would use it as a wall hanging, but she did not.
