hi,
i'm bettie and self taught crocheter. i have not croched in about 35 years and i am having trouble reading the patterns. i am 73 years old and lost my husband of 52 years in august and i am getting bored, so i thouhgt i would start to crochet again. i would like to make a granny square afgan but can't understand the directions. i will probaly catch on later, but if anyone has any suggestions i am ready to see them.

Hi Bettie! And welcome! The best way to understand a pattern is to write it out without the abbrevations- single crochet for sc, etc. And then just take one stitch at a time! I have been crocheting for years and I still do this with complicated patterns! And the tutorials on this site will help too! Good luck!
