I recently started crocheting again after many years and have gotten myself in a pickle. I bought a pattern for a dragon tail blanket for my son for Christmas. In the pattern is says to make an sc foundation but does not give me a specific measurement for this. My son is approximately 4 1/2 tall and I would like for him to get a couple years use out of the blanket. So how long does my sc foundation need to be? Any advice is much appreciated.

I just completed a mermaid tail blanket for my great niece. She is 39in and I made the blanket 44 1/2 in. I would add about 2in per year so if he is 54in tall now and you want it to last a couple years I would make it approximately 58 to 60in in length minimum.
