Hi my name is Joanne.
I am basically new to crocheting. I made a few blankets 23 years ago, using basic stitches.
My niece is having a baby so I thought I'd make a blanket for her. So I was looking at some and I found one that calls for doing your first row through the "back bump". After I chained 74 I looked for the bump, and only had 17 bumps. Since, I have chained a different amount each time and I cant get consistent bumps. I have spent 7-8 hours watching videos trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.
I'm using Bernat Baby Sport Yarn ( 100% acrylic) with a 6.5 needle.
I tried out a different yarn, Peaches & Cream ( 100% cotton), chained 40 and had 38 bumps.
With both yarns (more so the acrylic) I'd have like 3 bumps in a row then 10 without, then 1 or 2, and so on.
Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Joanne McEntee

Hi Joanne,
Welcome to ct. I think the bump is the back of the stitch. You have a bumpy side which is the back of your work and the front side which is smoother.
