    Love to Crochet

I had an idea in December that I wanted to crochet lapghans for a local nursing home. I talked with a lady in our church and we started making these. We we spread the word around we have 3 other ladies decide to help us. We have now completed 85 and are planning to give them to the residents this week. We are starting a class where we will be crocheting and sewing items for the nursing homes, shutins and homeless. I found your website very interesting with lots of ideas of things these people need. Thank you for sharing and I look forward to reading comments and suggestions by others. I have attached a picture of one I did. Love to Crochet-hpim3159-jpg

    Hello jla,

It is nice to have you here and thanks for sharing your photo. I really like the colors - they seem very calming. Your other friends are more than welcome to join us and share their adventures, too!

Hi! And welcome to the forum! You and your church group are doing a great service for the elderly. etc! Shawls may be an idea for nursing home ladies. I worked at a nursing home when I was a teenager, and the ladies were always cold! But somehow sweaters seemed to get "lost"! Between a lapghan and a shawl they should be really warm!

Thanks. My sister has made a poncho pattern and has made 32 ponchos to give to Alzheimer patients in her area. They loved them. They are short enough that they don't get caught up in the wheels of a wheelchair. She took an old pattern for a fancy shawl that a previous pastor's wife made (which by the way were beautiful), simplified it and made it into a poncho for shutins, nursing homes, etc.. She is sending me a pattern so we can make some too. Her church has taken this on as a project, she lives in SC and I live in NC.

We recently started a prayer shawl ministry at our small church. Pray for us.
