Help- Chrocet a slouch hat for an adult

I have attempted to make it over and over and it comes out crazy. I am a beginner and I need a simple slouch hat. I want a band on it. Maybe I don't know how Im to count. Does anyone have a pattern with a map(for lack of a better term) May I need a diagram of how to crochet.

I'd try looking for a video. There is so much information available now. Back in the day, I learned from a book (one of those Sunset books, I think) but now... wow! Someone out there has the info/pattern you need. Don't give up. (Personally, I like the hats made from a rectangle then seamed up the back and gathered at the top. So easy and they actually work well on my head.) Good luck!
