Lots of designers give away patterns, but they almost all have Etsy stores and paid patterns on Ravelry, Craftsy and their websites, so you can go wither way, pay or not pay, but for years I've saved free patterns almost daily and have a great collection of beautiful, unique patterns. Some patterns, if people like the style of a certain designer, or they have a special one, people will pay any price for them, I see it all the time, and some people refuse to pay. Thank goodness there are so many free ones, but people use a lot of yarn to do crochet sites and really do deserve the right to sell some for the low prices they charge so they can buy yarn, pay for their websites and related software programs too (I've learned that free websites offer much less compatibility than I ever knew, but they're enough for some people to have their site, yet they still need more than just a website domain)
