That is a very pretty pattern. The only thing I can think of is that you are to have a specific number of stitches when you finish Round 4 and possibly for it to line up correctly, you need to start in a specific stitch on Round 5.

Hope this helps. Someone else may have another idea. That is what I am seeing but I could be incorrect.

I am not sure with out seeing the pattern. It really does not make any sense, at first I thought maybe that is where you have to start to make the pattern work out , but it is not really that involved of pattern stitches... I guess the designer had to start the row somewhere and got creative and picked that number....lol....good luck ...Davena

That round probably sets up the placement of the shells on the following round so that the shell is placed exactly on the corner. Please post a picture and let us know when you're finished. It is a beautiful blanket!

Yes, I agree with Beverly. Usually when a designer specifies a particular point at which to attach a new color in a new round, it has something to do either with how it sets up for shells in the next round or how the color happens to fall in the pattern. I didn't see anything in the pattern that would require such a starting point, but without knowing what colors are being used and what the rest of the pattern looks like, it's very difficult to say.

Ok, I just went out to Red Heart and had a look at the pattern. It is important where you connect each of the colors in the border because the green sets up where the pink shells work in and the pink shells, being so large, are almost like a fan and they must begin and end in just the right place around the edge. It would not do at all if the shell wound up being too close to the corner. There wouldn't be room for you to finish the shell before the corner stitches would have to be made. I suppose it would be possible to attach at any other place around that row, providing you were able to stay true to the pattern, but it would appear that this is the only place in that row that the designer has calculated for the pattern to work.

    Hi all,
Thank you so much for clarifying . Now it makes sense to me.
At first I ignored the "16St" and as you said the shell were too close to
the corner so I undid it redo it.
Thanks again I really appreciate u taking time to response.
