"All We Had" by Annie Weatherwax? The writing style is very captivating as it tells the story of a single mother and her only daughter as they strike out on their own from a failed relationship in California to the eventual stop to Harvard, whether mom hopes to get 14-yr old daughter admitted to a good university. How this will happen with lack of money or anything else going for the mom, is questionable. Along the way, they end up in a small town where friends are a foreign thing to them and where a job helps mom and daughter begin a new life. It's a struggle that evolves into something life altering. Surprising good writing style that I am enjoying. I got the book from the library for free but here is a synopsis of the book from Amazon:
